The smart way to lose weight

The No S Diet - Not Your Weight Loss Answer

Fat Cats: Selling Diets in America

How Much Can You Lose? 2 pounds / week

Difficulty? Hard to keep the weight off during “cheat” days

Side Effects? None noted

Dieting in America has become a very interesting billion dollar industry, probably because it preys on both our intellect and emotions, our good judgment to be healthy and our ego and emotions that hopes to be slender, ergo beautiful. So of course, everyone wants in on the action, including Engels and Kallen, 2 men who found a way to publish and market a new diet book, The No S Diet.

The premise of the No S Diet is that you eat, ” no snacks, no sweets, no seconds, except for Saturday, Sunday and special occasions. ” which sounds simple and makes some superficial sense. If you have the less than desirable eating habits of many Americans, eating less junk food in general, ie sugary snacks and seconds on the high calorie items won’t hurt a thing and would be likely to cause weight loss. But any devoted dieter knows, any serious and hopefully pro-nutrition change in eating habits may create a sustainable weight loss of 2 pounds per week. And as those dieters also know, regaining those 2 pounds is an easy task for any weekend if they go back to their standard caloric intake and calorie burning activities. Only if the dieter manages to stick to the 3 no s principles enough to change their total eating habits including weekends does this diet seem to be much help, unless your nutritional habits and caloric intake are consistently poor.

So, by all means, consider your lifestyle consumption of non-nutritional / empty calories and the size portions you consume of everything, ie how often you obviously eat too much when you pile it all together, instead of sneaking seconds and snacks so it might look like you eat less. But don’t assume any intermittent (weekday to weekend) change in calories is the magic bullet to thin. The only magic here is how 2 non-experts managed to publish another diet book. I promise I won’t help make their wallets get fat.
